I've learnt how the internet originates, by Pentagon's ARPANet, its goals are to allow scientists at different locations to share information, and to function if part of network were disabled.

Internet is a public, coorperative, and independent network. World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is for oversees research, sets standards and guidelines, contributing to the growth of the Web.
Slow-speed technology is the dial-up access, which the modem in your computer uses a standard telephone line to connect to the internet. This must be establised each time you log o.
High-speed connection are DSL, cable modem, FTTP, fixed wireless, wireless modem, Wi-Fi, and satellite modem. This connection is always on whenever the computer is running.
Ways to access the internet are: ISP (Regional or National), OSP (ex: AOL, MSN...), Wireless internet service provider.
